"Astoria Civic Association Bike Race Has 80 Winners
More than 200 children, between three and 11 years old participated in separate races according to age in the Astoria Civic Association 29th Annual Bike Race in Astoria Park on May 17. The race event started with the youngest group peddling down Shore Boulevard, some on tricycles, others using training wheels. The top five finishers in each of the 16 separate age categories received a trophy and all participants received a medal as a memento of their efforts. Sponsors included City Councilmember Peter Vallone Jr., Con Edison, TD Bank, US Powergen (Astoria Generating Station), Empire Office and the Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens."
